Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Ray of Light Awards for 2012. The award ceremony was held last Sunday at the Williamsport Community Arts Center. I was fortunate to be able to photograph the ceremony again this year, along with a fellow colleague from the Susquehanna Shutterbugs. We posted several images to the WNEP site below:
I also posted several more on my website at http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stephenbhoffphotography.com%2Fg%2Fray_of_light_awards_2012&h=uAQGCde0m. The award ceremony will be aired  May 27th, at 8PM on WNEP2. Link: http://wnep.com/2012/05/25/2012-ray-of-light-show/. Please check back, as I will be posting all of the runway images this weekend.

Chicago Pictures From Northerly Park

Chicago is loaded with opportunities for photographers to capture a wide variety of images. The downtown area is great for street photographers and many of the buildings are ornate with a lot of architectural detail. It is also one of the easiest cities to get skyline images. Northerly Park offers great vistas of the city. Looking West from the park you can capture the Chicago skyline to the North and South. Walking trails allow easy access to viewing sites. The park also has a beach, boat harbor, and the Adler Planetarium. One tip I need to pass on: parking is available at Adler Planetarium and there is a parking garage as well, but these will cost you about $20.00 to $26.00. They are convenient, but public parking is available on street and at a public lot at the park visitor center for $1.00 per hour, with a three hour maximum. You can park, take your photos, and more on to your next stop. The park has a map and information online here. Located nearby you will also find the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum. Chicago's residents know the area well, but few visitors venture past the attractions in the area. It is well worth the visit. I have found it relatively easy to get to on weekends. During the week you have to contend with traffic, but access is still straightforward if you avoid rush hour. I stopped on the same day as the Chicago Marathon, next time I will check the paper for events in the area. I have more images from my visit on my site.

Rotary balloon Festival 2010

The Rotary Balloon Festival was held September 18th & 19th at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds in Hughesville, PA. The move from the Williamsport Airport proved to be a good idea. The fog from the river that plagued last year's even was not present. The weather was great and the balloons were able to take off. I posted several photos on my website. You can follow the link below to check them out. I have also included this year's link for the festival.

Penn State Arboretum-H.O. Smith Botanical Garden

I recently discovered the H.O. Smith Botanical Garden in State College, PA. The garden, located across from the law school on Penn State Campus, is a wonderous place to photograph floral and fauna. I especially like the lily pond. It is best to visit early morning or late to early evening when the light is not as harsh as during the day. Any overcast or cloudy day would also be a good time to visit. The diverse varieties of plants make it an everchanging sea of color. You will need to visit every few weeks to capture the changing landscape. It was recommended to me by a friend and I thank her for that. I have included a link to the aboretum for more information as well as a few photos from my last visit.

Canon Expo 2010 New York City

Every 5 years Canon showcases its latest products and prototypes that may become products in the future. Canon Expo 2010 kicked off at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City and includes stops in Paris, Tokyo, and Shanghai. It is an amazing assemblance of technology, innovation, and equipment. This years event included a fashion show, presentations by several of Canon's Explorers of Light speakers, including Robert Farber, Douglas Kirkland, and Denis Reggie and Corbin Bursen was also there to discuss the future of film using Canon HD cameras.
I was able to see the new 60D, the 8-15mm f4 fisheye lens, and a host of other new cameras.

Spongebob

I bumped into an old friend while in New York City this past weekend. I found Spongebob, outside of the M&M Store off Times Square. After a couple of photos and catching up on conversation, we were off again on our separate ways.

Current Show -- The Kind Cafe, Selinsgrove

I currently have several photographs hanging in The Kind Cafe in Selinsgrove. The cafe is only 10 minutes past the Susquehanna Mall at 16 North Market Street. The food is quite unique, and the owners believe in being as local and organic as possible. The cafe is open from 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm on Saturday, and 9am to 1pm on Sunday. The artists change every few weeks, so even if you miss my showing, you will get to see another local artist. I have included the cafe's link in this post for more information. I hope you get a chance to stop in at some point.

Birds in Nest

I caught these the day before they left the nest. There are actually four birds in the nest. They were in the nest for several weeks and both mother and babies were very tolerant of my intrusions.

Bowens - the power behind the picture. Photographic Studio & Location Lighting for Professional Photographers

Once in awhile, I will post information on sites that I think may be a interest. This one includes a link to sign up for a free quarterly magazine geared toward lighting. Some I stumble across and others come from seminars or other photographers.
